Anthony Philip Scarcia passed peacefully to his Heavenly Father on January 17, 2022. Born on December 13, 1948 in J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon; only child of the late Deliata (Sacratini) and Tony Scarcia. Raised in Dudley, PA; a graduate of Tussey Mountain Hugh School Class of 1966 and Shippensburg State University in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science in education and Masters of Education in secondary school counseling; first taught at Forbes Road then as guidance counselor at Hyndman Middle Senior High and Hyndman Londonderry Elementary from 1972 to 2003 teaching history his last two years.
Served six years as Staff Sergeant in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in Altoona from 1970 to 1976. He was an active member of the Hyndman Londonderry Lions Club from 1972 until his health declined and was a Melvin Jones Recipient. He enjoyed working the Hee Haw Shows, antique car shows and helping with Christmas lighting.
On June 22, 1996 he married wife Deborah and is also survived by step-son Perry Oakes and wife Jamie; grandsons Connor and Jacen; sisters-in-law Phyllis Corle (Clair, Dec.); Nancy Diehl (John, Dec.); Karen wife of Thomas Hershberger; Billie Jo (Alan, Dec.) Richard, Dec. and Eugene, Dec.; cousins Susie Michel, Edie O’Rielly, Sylvia Gill from New York; Pastor Dean Thomas, Frank Thomas, Bobby Thomas, Deanna Thomas Kreiger, Bonnie Thomas Miller, Cathy Thomas Dudley, Delores Thomas, Lisa Bartola Baer, Ryan Bartola, Kristie Bartola Edwards, Amy Bartola, Mike Bartola, Cheryl Bartola Stouffer, Gary Sacratinia and best friends Marty, Judy Krentz.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two special uncles Americo Scarcia and Dominick Scarcia and cousin Settinia (Tootsie) Bartola; Philip Bartola and his son Philip Bartola; Martin Bartola and his much-loved golden retriever “Ranger” and cat “Cookie”.
He enjoyed baseball and coached the 1976 Hyndman Team to the District Championship. He also coached girls’ softball. He was an avid hunter and liked to make homemade soups and bake his own bread. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley and attended St. Thomas since moving to Bedford.
Funeral service will be held at The Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Dean Thomas officiating.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Akers Funeral Home, Inc, from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be held privately at Ave Maria Catholic Cemetery.
