Alvin Dean Northcraft

Alvin Dean Northcraft, 89, of Wafordsburg, PA; passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland, MD.  He was born on April 24, 1936 in Amaranth, PA; a son of the late Leo "Chump" and Ada (Smith) Northcraft.  On August 3, 1958 in Whips Cove Church, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane (Smith) Northcraft.

Along with his wife of sixty-seven years, he is survived by two sons Shane Northcraft married to Susan (Stine), Clearville, PA and Dwayne married to Betsy (Berkstresser), Waterfall, PA; grandchildren Aimee, Joe, Laura, Casey and Lindsay; great grandchildren Zak, Zoie, Grace, L.J., Annaleigh, Michael M.J., Barrett, Hawkins, Armaya, Chesney, Andi and Florentina; one great great grandson Quest; and a brother Marvin Northcraft.

He was preceded in death by a brother Williard Northcraft and sisters-in-law Pauline and Jeanne Northcraft.

Dean was a member of the Whips Cove Church, where he has served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent and leader of an annual church hike that he would organize.

Mr. Northcraft was a graduate of Warfordsburg High School Class of 1954 and a graduate of Harrisburg Barber School.  He joined the United States Army serving from 1956-1958, mostly in Germany. Upon his return home he married the love of his life Nancy.

Dean owned and operated Dean's Barber Shop in Breezewood for fifty-five years until his retirement, where he enjoyed many conversations.

He was a member of the Everett Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. No. 524.  Dean enjoyed horseback riding with his wife, hunting, especially with a flintlock, fishing, farming, raising black angus, arrowhead collecting, his old farmall tractors, and collecting cast iron skillets.

Mr. Northcraft was one of the original natives of Buck Valley, he enjoyed sharing history and telling stories of the surrounding areas.

Friends and family will be received for a time of visitation on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, PA; from 9 A.M. - 11 A.M.   Everett Masonic Lodge will conduct a masonic service at 10:45 A.M.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Whips Cove Church with Pastor Luke Backus officiating.

Burial will be held at Jerusalem Cemetery.
