Alverta "Birdie" M. (Brown) Figard

Alverta ‘Birdie” M. Figard, 86, of Saxton, PA; passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Homewood at Martinsburg. She was born on April 19, 1935 in Huntingdon, PA; a daughter of the late Elmer Brown and Hazel Dorothy “Dot” (Sherlock) Brown - Leabhart. She was united in marriage to the late George H. Figard on December 2, 1952.  He preceded her in death on February 17, 2016.

She is survived by children Rodney Figard married to Janet, Saxton, PA; Randy Figard married to Cindy, Saxton, PA; Tina Oberman married to Gary, Saxton, PA; Stacey Figard, Saxton, PA; she adored her sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren; siblings Marlene Bacon married to Paul; Jim Brown married to Diane; sisters-in-law Jane Brown, Marietta Brown, Susan Clark and brother-in-law Merle Barnett.

Along with her husband she was preceded in death by the following siblings: an infant sister, Elmer Brown, Tim Brown, Carolyn Barnett, Ronnie Brown, Allen Brown and a grandson Brandon Ritchey.

Birdie was an active member of Saxton First Church of God where she taught Sunday School and served as a Deaconess.  She worked as a waitress at the Happy Hollow where she met her soon to be husband George.  Over the years she babysat for many families at her home.  She enjoyed traveling with the retired teachers group.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678 with Pastor Ronald Wilson officiating.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held privately at Broad Top I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
