Alfred George Smalley

Alfred George Smalley “Al, Nick, and Alfie”, 85, of Artemas, PA; passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 16, 1937 in Circleville, Ohio; a son of the late George and Violet (McCollister) Smalley.

He is survived by daughters Barbara Snyder (Robert), May Oakman (Dennis) and Allison Partridge (Joseph); grandchildren Jessica (Mark), Robert (Caitlin), Chelsea (Michael), Gloria, Cortney, Adam (Michelle) and Joey; eight great grandchildren and a sister Barbara Brooks. 

He graduated from Circleville High School in 1955 and later received his associate degree from Gloucester County College later in life.  He served twenty years in the United States Navy and retired as a Petty Officer 1st Class.

He was born and raised in Circleville, Ohio and joined the United States Navy right out of high school. 

He met his first wife Gloria at the Naval Commissary and they married in 1961.  They had three daughters as he continued his military career; the family traveled many places including Taiwan where they lived for four years.  He retired from the United States Navy in 1975 and resided in National Park, NJ.  He met and married Yvonna Pearl (Oakman) in 1984 and then moved to Artemas, PA, where he happily lived for the remainder of his life. 

She preceded him in death in 2009, along with sisters Janet Redman and Carol Kifer; granddaughter Erika and a furry friend “Pumpkin”.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA from 6-8 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Milton Morris officiating.

Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Artemas.
