Maxine (Wright) Means, 88, of Everett, PA passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Maxine was born in Wells Tannery, PA on December 15, 1931, the daughter of the late Ruby E. (Warsing) and Albert S. Wright. She was married to R. Bryce Means on June 20, 1952, in Winchester, VA, and they enjoyed 62 years together, prior to his death on October 16, 2014.
She is survived by two children: Debra S. Sheffield, Annandale, VA, and Lynn B. Means, husband to Sharon, Caswell Beach, NC; oldest sister, Erma England of Everett, PA and youngest brother, Robert (husband of Rita) Wright; and sister-in-law Barbara Wright (widow of Lester), both of Wells Tannery, PA, and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by brothers Norman (Jake), Gerald, Lester and Kenneth Wright; sisters Geraldine Cook and Vivian Wright and one infant sister.
She was a 1949 graduate of the Robert P. Smith School and had worked at the Breezewood Post House, Lions Manufacturing in Everett, Howard Johnson’s South Midway, retiring from Hedstrom. Despite having a hearing disability most of her adult life and relying on reading lips, she was able to have a very productive life until being diagnosed in November 2017 with a form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and endured chemo and radiation treatments until they were no longer effective. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, having a green thumb and took pride in caring for her home and family. She was a long-time member of the Black Valley Federated Church.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to the following for the care they provided to their mother: UPMC Family Hospice, Doctors David Baer, Mark Keating, Jack Schocker, Blaine Shuke, and Brandon Wilt; and to Ralph Jacobs, Altoona Professional Hearing Aid Center, and also to all their staff personnel.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maxine to the Everett Free Library, 137 East Main Street, Everett, PA 15537, or to the Black Valley Federated Church, c/o Susan Adams, P. O. Box 24, Clearville, PA 15535.
