Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert E. Zimmerman

September 16, 1940 ~ October 2, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Robert E. “Bob” Zimmerman, 77, of Chaneysville passed into eternal life on October 2, 2017 at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. He was born in Everett on September 16, 1940, the son of Millard and Oleta (Hook) Zimmerman.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Jeannie (Mills) Zimmerman, and daughter, Tricia Ellen Zimmerman Beidle and husband,  Butch of Bedford, and son, Jason Robert Zimmerman and wife Kristy of Manns Choice. He was PapPap to grandsons, EJ, Caleb, and Noah Beidle and granddaughter Kaitlyn Zimmerman. Also surviving is sister, Gail and husband Robert Alewine of Portsmouth, VA, and brother, Richard and wife Annabelle of Everett and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marcus W. Zimmerman.

Bob was a graduate of Everett Southern Joint High School, class of 1958. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965, during the Vietnam War, where he served as an SP4-E4 and received the Marksman Declaration.

Bob loved the land that was passed on to him by his parents. He constructed the home for his family on that property. He could be described as a man of the earth, spending many hours on his John Deere Tractor either planting trees, cutting wood or just pondering his next project. He was an avid hunter earlier in his life. Bob was always ready to attend his grandchildren’s games, musicals, etc. With his ornery smile, he loved to spin tales of his glory days in his ’69 GTO, the car he had when he had met his life partner.

He retired from Sprint in 2000, after thirty-four years of service. He was “Zimmy” to his co-workers. He attended church at the Chaneysville Community Church; he was a charter member of the Southampton Historical Society, helping to restore the former Point Pleasant School where he attended and was taught by his father. He was also a member of the Chaneysville Senior Center.

He was a patient, kind and supportive husband, father and grandfather.
