Rae Kathleen (Smith) Ickes

Rae Kathleen Ickes, 91, of Arandale Street, Bedford, PA; passed away peacefully at her daughters home with family by her side.  She was born on July 23, 1927 in Claysburg, PA; a daughter of the late Roscoe Lamont and Mae Pauline (Holderbaum) Smith.   On August 25, 1945 in Cumberland, MD; she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Boyd Aaron Ickes.  He preceded her in death on January 22, 2015.  

She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Lynn Calhoun and Connie Lynn Ickes of Bedford, PA; adopted daughter by love Janis “Fran” Hillegass; three grandsons Shawn Calhoun married to Bridget (Delany), Sewickley, PA; Brandon Becker married to April (Arnold), Bedford, PA and Justin Becker married to Brooke (Dinnocenti), Everett, PA.; great grandchildren: Josh, Tristen, Drew, Austyn, Keirstyn, Boyd, Autumn, Eden, Maura, Colin and Madison; sister Betty Mae Whysong, Bedford, PA; two special friends Luisa Young and Roy Bowser; one grand dog Peaches Cream Ickes, and two special caregivers that she considered her angels.

She was preceded in death by grandson: Christian Lynn Calhoun, great grandchildren: Lynnette Nichole and Hunter Christian and furry friends Precious, Socks and Corkey.

Kathleen was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1945.  She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Bedford where she was a lifelong choir member and was very active with church activities.

She was a member of the Bedford Springs Chapter No. 41 Order of the Eastern Star.  Kathleen served as a volunteer at Pennknoll Village for over twenty years.  She enjoyed needlepoint, canning and was an avid reader.  She always made sure her daughters were taken care of and their needs were met.  Mrs. Ickes was a caring, loving and giving individual.

Friends and Family will be received on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett from 4-8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00  A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 6:00 P.M.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Lay Speaker Jim Miller officiating.

Burial will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
