Lester Henry Obituary

Lester Eugene Henry passed away at home on January 22nd, 2020...absent from the body present with his Lord.  He was born on May 16th, 1938. He was the son of Goldie and Lester K. Henry of Flintstone, MD. He was united in marriage to Betty Louise Henry, of Everett, PA, at Clear Creek Brethren in Christ Church on June 28, 1958. 

Lester graduated from Everett High School Class of 1957. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963, with a tour in Alaska. After his service, he and his family moved back to Pennsylvania, to Centerville, where he resided until his passing.

He is survived by his three children, James Henry married to Maggie, Media, PA; Melanie Solomon married to Wes, Brunswick, GA and Lana Simcox married to Chuck, Maiden, NC; five grandchildren, 

Maddison (Solomon) Bibby married to Matt, Abby Henry, Hunter Solomon, Lily Henry, Caitlan Simcox; surviving siblings Wayne Henry, Doris Owens, Roger Henry and Carol Cocke.

He was a charter member of the Cumberland Valley Township Volunteer Fire Department where he served as past Assistant Chief, communications specialist and in administrative positions. He was also a member of the Rose Tree Fire Company No. 1, Delaware County, PA, where he served in administrative and financial roles for over 10 years.

Lester was a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in PA and MD, for over 10 years, and was a Project Construction Manager for highway, bridges and buildings construction in PA, NJ and DE for over 20 years before he retired in 2000.

He attended Calvary Baptist Church of Bedford, PA.

Friends and Family will be received on Monday, January 27, 2020, from 4-7 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA, and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. John Geyer and Rev. Adam Kravets officiating.

Burial will be held at Union Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Everett Area Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that if people so desire that donations may be made in Lester’s honor to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000
