Laina Haney Obituary

Laina Rae Haney, 12, of Breezewood, went home to be with the angels on October 31, 2019.

Laina was born on December 28, 2006 at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring.  She was the daughter of the late Amanda Fait of New Paris and Jason and Danette Haney of Breezewood.

Laina was deeply loved not only by her parents, but also by her big brother, Logan and his girlfriend Lindsay; as well as her stepsisters, MaKena and Lindsey Foor.  Her grandparents are Katherine Haney of Manns Choice,  Russ and Carolyn Fait of Manns Choice and her great grandfather, Joe Blackburn of New Paris.

Her aunts and uncles are Joshua Haney, Jeremy (Abbey) Haney, Lindsay (Bill) Kennell, and Derek (Stephanie) Peck. She will be greatly missed by her cousins Billy and Dean Kennell,  Jadie Haney, Eastyn and Finn Peck and Stephen Hartz.

Along with her mother, Laina was preceded in death by her Grandfather, David Haney and great Grandmother, Faye Blackburn, who Laina called “GG”.

Laina was a 7th grader at Everett Area Middle School.  She had formerly attended Chestnut Ridge Middle School.  Although she had just started at Everett this school year, she made fast friends and left an amazing mark in the hallways of the school.

After waiting for several years, she was finally able to join the Everett Jr. Rifle club.  She was so excited to shoot every week and was extremely proud of her marks!  So were we!   She set goals for herself and planned on being on the high school rifle team and earn herself a scholarship.    Laina was a member of the schools secret agent club, which reaches out to others doing good, and also had just been selected to be a part of the middle schools roundtable.  Laina had attended Camp Cadet this past summer and although she complained about it, she secretly loved it and wanted to go back as a Sr. Cadet.

Laina formerly attended the Breezewood United Methodist Church and was currently attending the Everett United Methodist Church.  She loved attending the Crystal Spring Campmeeting every August.  At camp, she connected with many kids from various places.   She loved helping Gena in the kitchen and serving dinners in the dining hall, playing in the creek, or just hanging out on the porch talking to “Pappy and Grandma Logs”.

Laina’s biggest joy was hanging out in the garage with her 2nd family.  She loved being with her “Aunt Candie and Uncle Travis” Calhoun.  She especially loved her ‘big brothers’ Reuben Calhoun, Trever Calhoun and Brandon Mills and her buddy, Gerald Mearkle.  The boys loved to pick on her but she sure gave it back to them!   She loved attending the races every weekend to cheer on her Uncle Travis and was so proud of his wins this season.   She got to experience the race from the pits at Hesston Speedway, where she would help prep the tires for the races, scrape mud from the car, or grab a tool.  She loved to do “live feeds” of the races and would give you lap by lap updates of what was happening.

Laina made a huge impact on anyone she came in contact with.  She had an infectious smile, the silliest ways, and the biggest heart.  For such a little girl, she had a huge presence.

Drive it like you stole it, Baby Girl!  We’ll see you at the finish line.
