Ira Grant Smith

Ira Grant Smith, 94, of Cumberland, MD formerly of Bedford, PA; passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was born on August 2, 1925 in Montezuma, NY; a son of the late Lewis T. and Tina (Poole) Smith.  He was first married to Emma (Bucy) Smith, she preceded him in death.  On April 4, 1987 in Flintstone, Maryland; he was united in marriage to Marie B. Smith. 

Along with his wife Marie, he is survived by children Sharon L. Harris, MD and Brenda J. Oberlander, MD; step-children Sandra married to Ronald Kifer, Janice married to Ken McCusker and Debbie married to Paul Morrow; four grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings B.K. Smith, Lawrence Smith, Lucey Smith, Alvena Catteron, Elva Davidson, Allen Smith, Leo Smith, Paul Smith and Grayson Smith.

Ira was employed at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Everett Church of God and attended Central Assembly of God in Cumberland, MD. 

Ira served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944-1946, he was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 10067, Chase, Maryland.

He enjoyed clock making.

A Memorial/Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Rocky Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
