Harold Brode Obituary

Harold D. Brode, 94, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Westminster Woods at Huntingdon.  He was born in Saxton, PA on May 22, 1924; a son of the late William H. and Dolly M. (Carberry) Brode.  On August 25, 1945 he married Verna Mae (Reed) Brode in the Saxton Church of God.  She preceded him in death on February 22, 2003.

Harold is survived by children Terry Brode married to Mina, Camp Hill, Tonia married to Leroy Corbin, Little Valley, Carol married to Carl Barnett, Todd, Judy married to Jim Chamberlain, York, Bill Brode, Little Valley, Don Brode, Rimersburg; sixteen grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren, with two more expected this fall; siblings June Lemin, William Brode married to Judy.

Along with his wife, Harold was preceded in death by brother Robert Brode, grandsons Leroy D. Corbin and Brad A. Brode.

Harold was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School.  He was a member of the Huntingdon County Republican Committee and the Little Valley Sportsman’s Club.  He loved the outdoors and spent much time enjoying wildlife.

His great ethnic values began at nine years of age when he began working with his dad cutting lumber.  This became his livelihood as he started his family.  Before his retirement from PennDOT he was employed by Texas Eastern and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

After his retirement, he spent the first few years traveling the USA with Verna, his wife.  In later years you would find Harold supporting the Tussey Mountain High School baseball, football, and wrestling teams.  This support continued well into his 90’s.  They became part of his family.  Each one was very important to him.

For the last eighteen months he was a resident of Westminster Woods in Huntingdon, PA.  It was not his Valley home, but soon he made it his home with the support of his family and the staff at Westminster.  Just as Harold adopted the Tussey Mountain High School teams and supported them, it was time to be adopted into another family, the Westminster staff.  The family knew when they were not there the staff was taking good care of him.  A bird feeder was placed outside his window where he could watch the birds, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, and deer feast on the seeds.  The first day the feeder was filled a deer came up to his window and looked in at him and welcomed him to Westminster.  He knew he was home.

Now he has entered into his permanent home with the Lord, we rejoice knowing where he is.
