Dwane Gochnour Obituary

Dwane F. Gochnour, 89, of Everett, PA; passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford.  He was born on April 08, 1930 in Snake Spring Valley;  a son of the late Albert B. and Lillie M. (Pee).

On June 11, 1960 in Avonmore, PA at the St. Ambrose Church he married Beverly S. (Shacikoski) Gochnour, she preceded him in death on January 22, 2017.

He is survived by children Lori A. Gochnour, Everett, PA; Michael D. Gochnour married to Marcy, Johnstown, PA and Andrea R. married to Michael Rankin, Clear Spring, MD; grandchildren Briana Young, Natasha Gochnour, Wyatt Rankin, Benjamin Rankin, Michael D. Gochnour II, Hayden Gochnour and John Gochnour; great grandchildren Jesse and Renley; and brother-in-law Jack Sponsler and sister-in0law Ruth Gochnour.

He was preceded in death by siblings Fred Gochnour, Donald R. Gochnour, Norma Lorraine Wilson and Mariam Sponsler.

Dwane was a member of the St. Johns Evangelist Catholic Church, Everett.

Mr. Gochnour was a graduate of Everett Area High School Class of 1947 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from West Chester State Teachers College and his Masters from Shippensburg University.  Mr. Gochnour was employed as an educator/administrator for the Everett Area School District for thirty seven years until his retirement in 1992.  Over the years of his employment he was baseball coach, assistant football coach, athletic director, administrator, director of transportation, director of all extracurricular activities, director of area parks and recreation.

Dwane served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a radar operator in a Nile Guided Missile Battalion as part of the perimeter defense around Washington, D.C.

He was a member of the PSEA, NEA, Pennsylvania State Athletics Directors Association, District V PFSA Committee, Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame, and former member of the Everett Jaycees, Rotary Club and the Everett Lions Club.  Dwane was instrumental in the Everett Area Alumni Association, having formerly served as president for many years.  He was also voted as one of the 100 outstanding individuals of the Everett area and Everett Area School District of the 20th century.

Family and Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 4-8 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Father Derek Fairman officiating.

Burial will be held in Ritchey Cemetery with full military honors by the Everett Area Honor Guard.
