Dr. Jason Craig Waite

Dr. Jason Craig Waite, 48, of West Main Street, Everett, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at home surrounded by family.  He was born August 20, 1970 in Reading, Pennsylvania; son of M. Craig Waite married to Jane (McCahan), Sun City, SC and Sherry (Gensel) Scurfield, New Cumberland, PA.  On June 27, 2015 he married Leesa A. Keys-Waite in Las Vegas, NV.

Along with his wife and parents, he is survived by son Mahlon Henry Waite, Bentonville, AK; siblings Alison Waite married to Matthew Shinall, Everett, PA; Leann Waite, Sun City, SC; nephew Samuel Shinall; grandfather Charles William Gensel, Harrisburg, PA; mother-in-law Delores Myers, Everett, PA; and leaving behind a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandfather Mahlon Waite, grandmother Mabel Ruth Brodbeck, grandmother Doris Mae (Otto) Gensel and father-in-law Charles Myers, Sr.

Jason was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Bedford, PA.

He graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1988; received his B.S. degree in journalism from the University of Colorado; received a Master’s degree in writing from Missouri State University; earned his Ph. D. in communications and rhetoric from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Upon finishing his Ph. D. Jason worked as an English professor at Western Oregon University.

Jason spent six years in the United States Navy, four enlisted and two as a commissioned officer.  While enlisted he served on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk(CV-63) as a gunner’s mate, earning the Southwest Asia service medal for serving during the first Gulf War.  As a commissioned officer, he serviced as a surface warfare officer, electronics materials officer and fire control officer while stationed on U.S.S. Supply (AOE-6)

Friends and Family may call at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Thursday, October 18, 2018 for a time of visitation from 5-8 P.M.  A Vigil Service will be held.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 215 East Penn Street, Bedford, PA 15522 on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Richard Tomkosky officiating.

Burial will be held privately at Saltillo Cemetery on Saturday at 11:00 A.M.
