Connie L. (Merritts) Collins

Connie L. Collins, 68, of Clear Ridge Road, Clearville, PA; passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at home surrounded by family.  She was born on March 3, 1949 in Altoona, Pennsylvania; a daughter of the late Floyd and Ellen (Hinkle) Merritts.  On June 5, 1965 in Altoona, Pennsylvania; she was united in marriage to Gary D. Collins.

Along with her husband of fifty-one years she is survived by children Travis married to Kimberly (Koontz), Everett, PA; Stephanie married to Glenn Cogan, Clearville, PA and Brandon Collins married to Melissa (Flaugher), Keller, TX; six grandchildren Richard and Rebecca; Jordan and Josiah; Caleb and Ariel; siblings Terry Peterson; Jerry Merritts married to Deborah (Price), Clearville, PA; Pamela Miller, Everett, PA.

Connie was of the Methodist Faith, serving as a lay minister within the Methodist Denomination.  In past years she served as Youth Group Leader at the Clearville United Methodist Church.

Throughout the years Connie worked at the Lions Manufacturing in Everett and later working as a waitress at Dutch Pantry and Bob Evans in Breezewood.  She was also employed later at Oral Roberts University, AmeriCorps and MHMR. 

Mrs. Collins started a radio program on WSKE called Cope, was co-founder of the Christian Recreation Center serving as President and was a writer for the Mature Living publication.  She enjoyed singing with her very dear friend Mary Hartman.  Connie was a very giving person, always concerned about others well-being and willing to help in whatever capacity.  She would always share her gift of hospitality and loved her family.

Family and Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.  At the request of the family it will be a closed casket visitation.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Hartman officiating.

Burial will be held at Pleasant Union Cemetery.
