Virginia Reed Obituary

Virginia M. “Ginny” Reed, 86, of The Village at Morrisons Cove and formerly of Sedona Drive, James Creek, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. She was born on January 15, 1932, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Wanda A. (McCall) Thom.  She was united in marriage to John C. “Don” Reed on May 13, 1950.  He preceded her in death on May 31, 2011.

She is survived by a son Donald Reed, Russellville, PA; three daughters Donna Low and husband Marvin, Russellville, PA, Julie C. Reed and companion Richard Shields, Springdale, AR and Nancy Reed-Querry, Huntingdon, PA; three granddaughters Gwen Hollingshead, Russellville, PA, Kristen Low, Huntingdon, PA and Jennifer Ocker, Tyrone, PA; three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; a brother William Thom and wife Linda, James Creek, PA; sisters-in-law Dianne Reed, Somerset, PA and Doris Reed, Martinsburg, PA.

She was preceded in death by sisters-in-law Minnie Reed and Carolyn Reed; three brothers-in-law Thomas, Jack and Paul and a special grandson Scott Rinker.

Mrs. Reed was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Russellville, where she once served as a church organist.  She loved her church family.  Even into her later years she continued to sing and play the piano for her friends at the senior center.  She was also a member of the Huntingdon High School Class of 1950.  She was proud of her service as a young adult as a nurse’s aide at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital.

Virginia cherished fellowship with family and friends, and enjoyed making new acquaintances.  A devoted wife, beloved mother and friend, Mrs. Reed’s life, faithful to the Lord, was one of unselfish, compassionate service to others.  She was endearing to others for her heart full of love, expressed daily as words of hope and encouragement, warm smiles and lighthearted humor.

Each day Mrs. Reed looked for and found the Beauty in GOD’s handiwork.  Like the countless times she reveled in child-like wonder at a majestic sky or landscape, and creatures, large and small.

Known as “Gram Reed” to her grandchildren, thanks be given to God for Gram Reed’s enduring spirit of love.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Russellville, PA with Pastor Doug Satterlee and Pastor Jill Clawson officiating.  Interment will be made in the Russellville Reformed Cemetery.
