Sylvia Joan (Lundquest) Melius

Sylvia Joan (Lundquest) Melius, of Riddlesburg, was born on January 15, 1936, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital.  Most recently, she was a resident of Arista Care at Huntingdon Park.  She was the daughter of Reginald A. Lundquest and Kathryn Johnson, both deceased.  She was raised by her father and stepmother, Ruth P. Lundquest of Saxton.

She was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School, Class of 1953.  Sylvia retired from the former Seton Leather Company in Saxton, where she had worked for 22 years.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as participating in activities at the Hopewell Senior Center.  And, she was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her two daughters; Gaynell R. Boor and husband, George, of Huntingdon, and Rosemary L. Bruce and husband, Tony, of New Cumberland.  In addition, she is survived by her grandson, Scott A. Bruce and wife, Stephanie, of Wellsville; sister, Shirley A. Lucas, of Hilton Head Island, SC; great-grandchildren Cody Nelson and Sierra Bruce of Wellsville; nephew Nathan P. Lucas and wife, Amber, of Silver Spring, MD; great-niece Haley Lucas and great-nephew, Ryan Lucas; sister, Dianna Roub of Frederick, MD; and sister, Edna Peck of Middletown, MD.

She was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey C. Melius, in 1985 and still born daughter, Carrie Jo Melius in 1959.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sylvia’s name to either the Hopewell United Methodist Church (672 Christian Street, Hopewell, PA 16650), or the Hopewell Senior Center (305 Mifflin Street, Hopewell, PA 16650).

Family and Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Akers Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dr. Kenneth Grundon officiating.

Burial will be held at Hopewell Cemetery.
