James C. Swope, 80, of East Graceville Road, Everett, PA; passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at home. He was born on September 25, 1937 in Six Mile Run, Pennsylvania; a son of the late Robert M. Swope Sr. and Helen (Hedge) Swope. On November 23, 1957 in Cumberland, Maryland; he was united in marriage to his wife of sixty years Ruth L. (Reyan) Swope.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters Debbie L. married to Gabriel Barber, Duncasville, PA and Natalie D. Swope and companion Scott Rose, Everett, PA; four grandchildren Calvin Brantner married to Kerry (Ross), Everett, Dustin Brantner married to Michele (Beard), Bedford, Destiny Michelle Brown, Everett and Alivia Dawn Brown, Everett and her special friend Keeshaun Dempsey; two great grandchildren Jessika Brantner, student at Edinboro College and Kyle Brantner, Bedford; siblings Gary Swope married to Karen, Hopewell, Janet Barton married to Jack, Hopewell, Gail married to Allen Millin, Everett, Christine married to Foster Snyder, Waterfall, Loren Swope married to Terry, McConnelsburg, Sue Braillier married to Bernie, Hopewell, Tom Swope married to Vicki, Everett, sister-in-law Jackie Swope, Six Mile Run; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Swope Jr.
Jim was affiliated with the Mountain Chapel Church.
He was a coalminer and later a self-employed concrete mason and most recently an East Providence Township Supervisor for twelve years.
He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, NRA, National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, having won state champion two years and a forty-eight year member of the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company where he served as a fire police.
Mr. Swope enjoyed playing horseshoes, painting, drawing, turkey hunting, being outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, ice fishing and being with his grandchildren.
Friends and Family will be received on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA and on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service. Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company will conduct services at 7:30 P.M.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ron Hott officiating.
Burial will be held at Rays Cove Christian Cemetery.
