Hazel attended the one room Buffalo Schoolhouse near Crystal Spring, Fulton County. She did not have transportation to the high school at Warfordsburg. When she was older she decided that she should have a diploma and at the age of eighty-one took the GED test at McConnellsburg. She loved to read and her life's passion was genealogy. She began her research in her teens and continued with it until her death. People often visited her for her knowledge about various Fulton County families. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution.
Over her lifetime she farmed, worked as an enumerator for the US Census Bureau and the Department of Agriculture, supervisor for the Bedford County DHIA, as a bookkeeper for an ag business, in a restaurant, cleaned motel rooms and wallpapered. She always had a large garden and enjoyed immensely. She loved road trips with children and grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
