Dennis Gene Sweeney

Dennis Gene Sweeney, 68, of Plank Road, Everett, PA; passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at UPMC Altoona Hospital with his wife by his side.  He was born on December 11, 1948 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; a son of the late Melvin and Laura (Good) Sweeney.  On July 3, 1980 in Winchester, Virginia he was united in marriage to Shelby J. (Hinkle) Sweeney.  Along with his wife he is survived by his brother Darrell Lee Sweeney married to Brenda (Steele), Everett, PA; special cousins Steve and Wayne Weaver and Nancy Bucher; brothers and sisters-in-law Carol Hinkle, TX; Clair Hinkle, Saxton; Linda Hinkle, Bedford, PA; Doris married to Jack Spencer, OR; Patsy married to Carl Barnett, Hesston, PA; Barry Hinkle married to Mary, Saxton, PA and Darlene married to Steve “Chip” Notestine, Saxton, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law: Robert and Fred Hinkle.

Dennis grew up attending Langdondale Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School Class of 1967 and went on to serve in the United States Army 1969-1970.

Mr. Sweeney was employed as a fabricator for Owens Corning in Huntingdon and later working at Containment Solutions in Mt. Union until his retirement.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and attending auctions.

Friends and Family will be received on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA.

Burial will be held privately at Steele Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
